GERALD Watkins picked up the best club member award when Herefordshire Motor Club held their annual awards presentation at Leominster’s Talbot Hotel.

Gerald Watkins beat Colin Ellis and Len Evans to the award while, in the ladies' category, Sue Underwood preceded Pat Pugh.

The other awards winners were: The Halls Pork Shop Trophy for furthering the name of the Club, Mark Lively; Paul Watkins Memorial Award for a co-driver's achievements, Josh Burton, who would also jointly win the Bengry Motors Challenge Cup for best performance on Welsh Rallies with Nigel Griffiths.

Andrew Burton and Shelley Rogerson share the Innes Ireland Hard Luck Trophy.

The best new member was Nigel Smith; Best Marshal receiving the Night Owl Trophy went to Dave Green while best junior members were Adam Wilks and Hannah Martin.

In the drivers’ categories, best Vauxhall was presented to John Moffatt, best Peugeot to Nigel Smith, best Ford to Jay Stanley, best Austin Rover to Liam Rollings and best Go-Kart driver to Jamie Hales.

For winning the British Autotest Championship, Alastair Moffatt was presented with the Malcolm Gibbs Trophy.

The Wheeler & Conu Challenge Wheel went to Philip Martin for best performance on club events. Martin also received the Benzole Challenge Trophy for winning the Club’s Autotest Series.

Receiving Merit awards from the committee members were Caroline Wilks for her contribution to the Welsh Marches Mini Epynt Stages, and Jon Ballinger and Alistair Douglas for winning the English Rally Championship.

For winning club events, Pete Townsend, Ben Williams and Mike Pugh were presented with trophies.

The club also held a raffle and party game which raised £300 which will be donated to the County Air Ambulance Trust Fund.
