SCOTT Moran clinched the British Hill Climb Championship title at Gurston Down on Sunday after a season-long battle with defending champion Martin Groves.
The Orleton driver’s 15-point tally for the meeting put him out of reach of Groves over the remaining six rounds of the series.
The first run-off over the ultra-fast 1,160 yards Wiltshire course took place in tricky conditions after a rain shower.
Groves took the win with a desperate effort stopping the clocks at 27.41 seconds. Roger Moran was runner-up on 27.51 and Trevor Willis took third with 29.30.
Scott played it safe with 29.30 for fifth spot and Deryk Young on 33.71 took seventh.
Jos Goodyear popped up to win the afternoon session with 26.47.
Scott cruised to second spot on 26.88. Chris Messick was third with 26.98, Roger was fourth on 27.05 and Young was sixth with 27.64. Groves was sidelined by gearbox problems and failed to score.
Scott and Roger Moran completed a remarkable double by becoming the only father and son to win individual championships in the 61-year history of the series, as Roger took the win in 1997.
They are, of course, the only county drivers ever to win British Championships.
