EIGHT new records were broken - including that of the longest-standing - at the 37th annual sports day of the Minister College.
Five records were set in Year 7 and three in Year 9 as the school’s athletes demonstrated their outstanding sporting potential.
Andre-Lene Cadet ran 14.13 seconds in the Year 7 girls’ 100 metres sprint and cut more than a quarter of a second off the former record.
Claudia Preece raised the bar in the Year 7 girls’ high jump to 1 metre 32, an improvement of seven centimetres.
Dan Sharp, in Year 7, also cleared a new record in the boys’ high jump, successfully leaping to 1 metre 32 cm.
Steph Ryan improved the Year 9 girls’ triple jump to 7 metres and 80 cm, while Sam Finney extended the Year 9 long jump record to 5 metres and 39 cm.
Alex Rumsey, of Year 9, took two tenths of a second from the existing 100 metres sprint record for boys, lowering it to 12.53 seconds.
He also attended the All England Schools’ Athletics Championships in Gateshead but was unable to extend his personal best of 40.28m in the javelin, finishing 12th with a throw of 36.29m.
Tom Fellowes extended a remarkable 5 metres and 13 cm to the Year 7 boys’ javelin record, which was previously held by Alex Rumsey. The new record is 29 metres and 79 cm.
Kealie Fletcher set a new record in the Year 7 girls’ discus with a throw of 17 metres and 86 cm. She added 1m 85cm to the previous best and beat the school’s longest standing record which had been set in 1983.
