HOCKEY stars of the future were awarded for their achievements at the Colwall and Malvern Hockey Club annual end of season presentation.

Awards were presented to all age groups and saw the first presentation of the Margaret Rist Award for best home grown talent.

Margaret Rist played for Colwall from the late 1940’s until 1963, when she became a Vice President.

After her death in 2005, the club was generously left a legacy, and it was with some of this money that they were able to set up, the now thriving, junior development section at the club.

The recipient of the award, Abigael Palmer, represented the club at under-14 level and is now a key member of the 2nd XI.

The mixed junior section currently has about 120 members from the under-eight to under-14 age category with players filtering into the ladies section, as they turn 13.

Awards were presented to: under-eight Development Awards - April Aldridge and Oscar Stevens; under-eight Player of the Season – Lauren Atkinson; under-10 Development Awards – Alice Thomas and Jackson Heath; under-12 Development Awards – Tamsin Laverty and Will Anderson; under-12 Player of the Season – Charlotte Coleman; under-14 Development Awards – Mae Blannin and William Stonehouse; under-14 Player of the Season – Charlie Bell.

The Junior House Cup was awarded to North Hill (Greens).

This season has also seen the club receive sponsorship from Chris Bocking at Buckingham House Dental Surgery.

The money has allowed the club to buy a top of the range goalkeeping kit, which will benefit both the current keeper and those coming through the junior section. A Star Printing continue to sponsor all the club training kit.
