ATHLETES across Herefordshire can apply for an award to help fund training and travelling to competitions.

The Halo Sport Foundation - with Paralympic hero Sascha Kindred as its patron - already supports scores of athletes in the county, representing over 30 different sports (including disability sports) with both funding and free training opportunities.

Another round of applications is now open.

The foundation thinks that as many as eight out of ten young athletes struggle to meet the costs of training for and travel to events and the scheme aims to help create a level playing field by giving local athletes the support they deserve.

“This not only enriches their lives, but enriches our communities,” said Ryan Statton, from the Halo Sport Foundation.

“We know the power of sport to transform lives, and the real benefits successful sportsmen and women can bring to their home county and to other young people around them.

“The Sport Foundation, though, are interested in who is going to be the next Mo Farah, and all those young people running to catch up with Usain Bolt, or inspired by Britain’s stunning teams.

“We can’t wait to see who applies now the application process is open, and to support them moving forward.”
