A PUPIL at a school near Leominster has won a competition to design a mascot for the Herefordshire School Games.

Bradley Coleman, from Stoke Prior Primary School, topped a high standard of imaginative entries from schoolchildren across the county.

The judging panel, which included Olympic Bronze medallist Chloe Rogers, High Sheriff of Herefordshire Edward Harley and the outgoing Mayor of Hereford, Cllr Charles Nicholls.

Bradley, aged 10, was presented with a framed version of his design along with his prize - a family ticket to attend a Worcester Wolves basketball match - at a special school assembly.

His design will now be created into the mascot which will be unveiled at the Herefordshire Summer School Games in July.

Peter Knight, on behalf of the Herefordshire School Games Local Organising Committee, said: "We'd like to congratulate Bradley on winning the mascot competition.

"His design was well thought through and as well as linking it to Herefordshire he incorporated all of the School Games values.

"I'd also like to thank all the other schools who took the time and effort to submit entries, there were some brilliant designs."

Matt Lewis, Stoke Prior headteacher, said: "It's fantastic news. We are really proud of Bradley for winning the Mascot competition.

"Being involved in the Herefordshire School Games at Level Two and Three really helps transform our primary school sporting offer.

"Also the extra-curricular competitions such as this allows us to involve all the children at the school even if they aren’t taking part in the sporting activities."
