AN English wrestler who performs in one of the USA's flagship promotions says it was an honour to compete in Hereford last weekend.

James Curtin, who is better known by his ring name Rockstar Spud in Total Non-Stop Action (TNA), was a surprise guest on Ironfist Wrestling's Spooky Spectacular show at the Richmond Club.

The 32-year-old, who was only booked a week before the event, beat Alex Gracie in the main event.

"It was a pleasure to be there because I love doing shows like this," said Curtin, who is currently competing in TNA's World Title Series contest for the vacant World Heavyweight Title.

"A gentleman contacted me at the last minute because they had a few 'card subject to change' moments and asked me if I was available to do it.

"I said 'absolutely' but he seemed a bit worried because he said 'thanks for doing it at such short notice', but I would say a week is plenty of advance warning."

Curtin added he had not heard of Ironfist Wrestling before but was glad he struck the deal.

"I know a lot of the guys who have worked here before and work on the UK scene and it's good to work with the younger guys.

"I'm still going to be the guy that you see on Impact Wrestling every week on Challenge in the UK, but these guys are still going to be working at these small halls.

"It was the best crowd, but any crowd is a good crowd if you give them what they want – I couldn't be happier with the audience."

Curtin was not the only star to perform on the five-match card.

'The Juice' Jeventud Guerrera, who has performed for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), fought Killian Jacobs for Jacobs' Ironfist Flyweight Championship.

Guerrera was disqualified following outside interference by Gracie, enabling Jacobs to hold on to his belt.

Jacobs later got his revenge on Gracie when he came to the ring to distract him in his match against Rockstar Spud while the referee was on the floor.

Gracie tried to hit Jacobs with a steel chair, but Jacobs jumped from the apron, resulting in Gracie hitting himself.

That led to Rockstar Spud performing a bulldog manoeuvre on his opponent for the win.

Other matches saw Xander Cooper beat Chris Brookes after Cooper's manager Melanie Price interfered, Danni Hunter defeating Alexa Rose and Joey Scott and Cyborg overcoming El Custodio and Kaiden Rourke.

The latter match saw Rourke turn on his partner though, enabling Scott and Cyborg to clinch the win.
