CHAZ Davies is now in pole position to finish second in the World Superbike championship table following another win for the Ducati team.

Davies, from Kinsham, near Presteigne, pipped Jordi Torres and Leon Haslam to win the second race at last weekend's meeting in Jerez, Spain.

Jonathan Rea has already won the championship with two races to go, but Davies is now ahead of Kawasaki's Tom Sykes in the race to be runner-up.

"I thought it would be very difficult to win, but we did well not to change anything from race one," said Davies.

"The track conditions were very different and it went better.

"In race one, I knew that I’d have trouble in the early stages.

"I was able to match Tom’s pace in the second half but I expected a drop in his tyre performance that never arrived.

"I’m very pleased with the results of course and it’s really important to have taken good points at this stage of the championship.

"I know the battle for second in the overall standings will be tight and I hope it goes to the wire in Qatar.”

It was Davies' fourth race win in his last six races and he now leads Sykes by 22 points.

Sykes, who won the first race, was unable to break away and was overtaken by Davies with 10 laps to go.

Davies then on to to grab his ninth win of his career and fifth this year.

The next meeting is at Magny-Cours in France on October 4 before the championship concludes in Doha, Qatar, two weeks later.
