A COUNTY triathlete says she is really pleased with how her season is going after winning an event in Yorkshire.

Kathryn King took the victory at the Rubicon middle distance triathlon, which consists of a 1.9km swim, a 88km bike ride and a 21km run.

An elite field of athletes took part in the event and King was invited to compete by organiser Mark Livesey.

"It was a beautiful setting for a triathlon and the weekend had a kind of festival feel to it," said King.

"The children’s triathlon on the Saturday got things going - it’s always brilliant to see kids racing, and enjoying being part of a big event.

"The main triathlon on Sunday was excellent.

"I had a strong race and was delighted to take the win.

King, who is supported by Hereford-based professional cycling team NFTO, is now preparing to for her next ironman event in November.

This will be her fifth ironman event, but second as professional triathlete.

But King picked up a virus after a previous Ironman 70.3 contest in Staffordshire, meaning that she did not do any other races leading up to the next ironman event in Bolton.

Bad weather conditions added to the problems, but King persevered to finish eighth professional female.

"This race was my first full Ironman as a pro. I’ve been training properly for this since the beginning of April, which isn’t really very long at all," said King.

"The plan now is to continue to progress steadily and work specifically on areas which will help me to improve in the most direct way possible.

"I was aiming for a top 10 finish so was very pleased to come in as eighth in the pro field, with an ironman personal best too.

"Ironman training is so varied, there are so many elements involved, which is partly why I love it so much.

"I have come away with more knowledge about racing ironman and increased confidence too."
