HEREFORDSHIRE wrapped up their Unicorns Minor Counties Championship campaign with an excellent 10-wicket demolition of Cheshire.

The hosts were bowled out for just 110 in their second innings, meaning Herefordshire only needed 52 runs to secure a comfortable win.

The result means that Herefordshire finished fourth in the Western Division with 75 points from their six matches.

The pick of the players against Cheshire were Dan Conway, who helped himself to nine wickets, and David Ball, who bludgeoned 80 runs.

After being put into the field after losing the toss, Herefordshire got off to the perfect start when Conway removed the wicket of Calum Rowe off just the second ball following a catch from former Worcestershire batsman Matt Pardoe.

And it got even better for Herefordshire when Cal Turner also went for a duck, again off Conway's delivery.

Cheshire then steadied things, with Alan Day and Danny Berry putting on a useful partnership.

Day eventually made 73 and Berry 39, while further down the order, wicketkeeper Adam Worrall scored an excellent 80 off 68 balls.

Cheshire were eventually bowled out for 277, with Conway finishing on 4-30.

Herefordshire made a steady start when they were put into bat and got to 45 before Alex Phillips departed.

Pardoe was next to go, but not after making a healthy 47 off 39 balls, leaving Herefordshire on 63-2.

Joe Dodd then went for 15 before Ball and Chris Whittock put on a useful partnership.

When Ball went, Herefordshire were on 223-5 before they lost Charlie Lowen, David Exall and Mo Pardesi in quick succession.

But brilliant ninth-wicket partnership by Will Barrett and Ali Janagir put Herefordshire back into the ascendency, with Janagir making 51 and Barrett finishing unbeaten on 47 to put their side 60 runs ahead.

Cheshire's hopes of getting back into the game were massively hit when Rowe and Day went cheaply to leave them at 3-2.

They were soon three wickets down when Conway removed Berry to claim another wicket before Turner departed on 13.

Ryan Brown and Andy Clarke did steady the ship, but Ball got rid of Clarke to leave Cheshire on 52-5.

Ball then clean bowled Worrall shortly afterwards, meaning that the home side were massively up against it.

Brown made 29 before he went, with only captain Dan Wood (30) making any other runs of note.

It was then a case of when and not if Herefordshire would win the game, with Pardoe (26) and Phillips (21) easily scoring the necessary runs.
