A COUNTY triathlete came fifth in the European Age Group Sprint Triathlon Championships in Switzerland.
Nicky Turvey, who competes for Hereford Triathlon and Croft Ambrey Running Clubs, was supported by her daughters Lauren and Suzanne, mum Helen Thomas and sister Amanda Gomersall at the event in Geneva.
It was held in the midst of a heatwave, with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius during the week.
"The swim took place in the beautiful lake Geneva which was lovely and clear but choppy, then the bike was three laps round the city including an 11 percent hill and concluding with a run through a tree filled park with a long run in along the lake side," said Turvey.
"I had a good swim, coming out of the water eight,h then running up a blue carpeted gantry to transition.
"The bike section went well and moved up into fifth place, putting mu training on the Herefordshire hills to great effect.
"Then finishing off with the run in the blazing sunshine to hold off any challengers and finish fifth."
