A HEREFORD cyclist beat Olympic champion Dame Sarah Storey to win a dramatic Pinsent Masons Women's Otley Grand Prix.

Annasley Park overpowered Storey tin a sprint finish after the pair had been clear of the chasing pack at the event in West Yorkshire.

The 19-year-old former Hereford Sixth Form College student rides for Giordana Triton and has been improving throughout the season.

She was 13th at the British National Time Trial Championships the week prior to her win last week in Otley and was fourth in the Curlew Cup in Northumberland.

In very hot conditions, Park and Storey raced clear on lap three of the 20-minute race.

With Park's team mate Nikki Juniper in the Series lead, the Giordana tactics were evident as Abby-Mae Parkinson set a ferocious pace up the circuit's signature climb.

Then when Storey's team-mate Gabriella Shaw went on the offensive, Giordana Triton countered with Keira Mcvitty holding her wheel, the net effect of all this high speed attacking riding stretched the field significantly and dropped riders as early as lap two.

When Storey launched her attack, Park was quickly onto her wheel and the pair rapidly increased their lead over the next few laps before Park won it at the finish.

"I am really happy with it because I wasn't expecting it," said Park.

"My job was to protect Nikki and stay on Sarah Storey's wheel.

"Sarah attacked and I thought I had missed her so I knew I had to go for it.

"I then managed to sprint away from her on the last corner.

"It is my biggest win this year.

"I started off the season not too great, but managed to get sixth overall in the Tour Series and third in the team series."

It has been a good week for Park as the following day, the teenager won the women's race of Hereford Wheelers' 11th Evening 10-mile course across the Lugg Bridge.

Park won in 24 minutes 21, beating Hereford Wheelers members Christie Jones, who posted 24:54 and Katie Price, who finished third.

NFTO's Steve King took his second win of the series to win the men's race in 23:10 in a close race with Hereford Tri Club's Greg Wisniowski, who recorded 22:22/

Climb on Bikes rider Ceri Middleton took third in 23:33.
