A HEREFORDSHIRE karting team has returned to the county from a successful championship on the Isle of Man.

Lucky Break Kart Racing team were competing in the Le Manx European 24-hour Championship Trophy.

The team, which features many members from Herefordshire, started the incident-packed race well with Will Jones driving with great consistency for an hour-and-a-half.

His teammates kept up the good work before Mike Kenworthy took the seat at 2am, just as the weather took a turn for the worse with torrential rain and wind.

But after an hour behind the wheel, Kenworthy was forced to return to the pits when his engine suffered a bad misfire.

Team leader, Neil Robinson, however, was quick to fix the problem before making the decision to keep him driving despite the poor weather as it was deemed Kenworthy coped with it well.

This decision was justified as Lucky Break went 30 laps ahead of the field before the reins were handed over to new team member Justas Kriunas who had never driven on slicks in the wet before.

He left the pits with some apprehension but within five laps showed why he made the team as he drive like an old professional to the delight of his fellow team members.

Caity Robinson was equally as good when it was her turn before Stu Smith drove the last stretch to win the title for Lucky Break by 87 laps.

Afterwards, the team paid tribute to their pit crew of Si Smith and James Dean Lucas for keeping the whole team together during the mammoth 24-hour event.
