A team of 12 CrossFit athletes from CrossFit Bull went head to head with 30 other CrossFit teams from across the UK and Europe at one of the biggest CrossFit team events held in the UK.

And the city club excelled in the two-day competition at Bath University by finishing in 14th position.

The event required each team to select 12 athletes for the weekend comprising of seven males and five females, including at least one male and one female master with Jeremy Wheadon and Denise Steer adding huge strength to the team as Crossfit Bull's masters competitors.

In the first event, three male athletes and three female athletes had to perform a snatch and a front squat for max weight, all weights from each athlete were added together to get the final score.

The team of six lifted 1,140kg, putting them 11th overall.

Other events included a whole team relay, working in sub teams of three, one person having to do a farmer's carry of a heavy weight while another team member carried the final team member over a 100m distance.

CrossFit Bull showed great determination and team work to finish 19th overall.

The last event of the day was a knockout relay race which replicated similar movements from the Strongman event of atlas stones; having the women’s team lift a medball weighing 45kg and the men’s team a medball weighing 75kg.

Both teams excelled in this event with the women’s team of Sophie Wheadon, Claire Bushnell and Etty Greenhouse making it through to the final race against all of the top teams, finishing a respectable seventh overall.

Going into day two CrossFit Bull were in 14th with some tough and challenging events ahead.

Again using two sub teams, one had to complete gymnastics movements with a max distance hand stand walk, triple jump then a heavy bench press; and the other team in an endurance rowing event.

CrossFit Bull were rowing next to Olympic rower Cameron Nicol and they went on to beat his team by 120m.

After qualifying 26th, the aim had been to finish in the top 15. The final event involved thrusters and pull-ups and the men's team finished giving the girls plenty of time to get through as much as they could in the 25-minute time cap.

The women worked incredibly hard to allow the team to finish in a highly creditable 14th position overall.

“The guys and girls at CrossFit Bull are outstanding and never fail to amaze me," said CrossFit Bull head coach Jeremy Wheadon.

"We have an incredible team not only of athletes, but of members and supporters as well. Most of the athletes this weekend have been doing CrossFit for less than 12 months, what they have achieved in that time is awesome."
