HEREFORD Wheelers celebrated their best ever racing season when they held their annual awards dinner at Hedley Lodge.

During the season their races attracted more than 1300 rides with riders ranging in age from 14 to 76.

New records were set pm nearly all their courses.

The guest speaker and presenter of the awards was Michael Hutchinson winner of multi national time-trial championships, national record holder over several distances, Commonwealth Games international, author of cycling books and regular columnist in Cycling Weekly.

The event was attended by 77 members, spouses and friends who were entertained by Hutchinson as he reminisced about his first ever time trial race and his subsequent progress to being national champion many times.

He also spoke about his attempt on the world track one-hour record and subsequent book that he wrote about his attempt.

Following a witty and entertaining talk, he took questions from those attending and provided some insights into current well-known British cyclists.

Hutchinson concluded the evening by handing out the annual awards to Wheeler members who included Katie Price winner of most improved woman, women’s evening 10 Trophy, best evening 10 time and women’s best all rounder; Andy Sparks winner of men’s evening 10 trophy, August 50 trophy, 100 mile scratch trophy, Arthur Steel 50 trophy and the senior and veteran best all rounder trophies; and the outstanding junior of the year Ceri Middleton who won the hill climb trophy, the middle markers 25 cup, the Phil Jones memorial trophy and the junior best all rounder.
