The son and father crew of Kevin and Mike Pugh are to tackle Wales Rally GB National, which gets underway today, again this year.

They competed in last year’s event in a Vauxhall Astra and suffered gearbox failure on day one but continued on the Sunday to complete the event.

For this year’s event, they will be in a Fiat Stilo Abarth Trofeo, an ex-Italian championship car built by N technology.

"It ran competitively for us for the first time last weekend at the Herefordshire Motor Club’s Builth showground stages," said Kevin Pugh.

"But unfortunately gearbox problems meant we failed to finish.

"At least it broke last weekend which means we can get everything checked ready for GB."

Brecon driver Sara Williams is also set to make her international debut on the Wales Rally GB.

Twenty-five year old Williams, currently the UK's most successful female rally driver, is the only British female driver in this international event.

"This is the chance I have been waiting for," said Williams. " I've acquitted myself well on the Wales Rally GB national event each year from 2010 to 2012, so competing in the international event this year is a major step for me and my regular codriver Patrick Walsh. We're really looking forward to the event."

Williams, who competes in a Group N Subaru Impreza N12 , lives in Brecon and is part of the family team at Brecon Motors, the local MG dealer.
