A MOTHER and daughter from Herefordshire will be heading north later this month to take part in a prestigious showjumping competition.

Kerys Evans and her mum Terri Anderson, from Credenhill, have both qualified to compete at the National Amateur & Veteran Showjumping Championships at Aintree International Equestrian Centre from November 19-23.

"We will be competing there in six different classes over all five days," said Evans.

"I have qualified for the 95cm, 1.05m and 1.10m Finals, on my nine-year-old Appaloosa gelding JC's Mr Darcy.

"Mum has qualified for both the Minor and Major Veteran Championships as well as the 1.10m Final, on her nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare, Kashmir VS.

"Mum used to show-jump to a very high level when she was younger, but only bought Kashmir a year ago, so she could get back into competing. They have been very successful and are moving up the grades.

"I bought JC as a two-year-old and have trained him myself. He mostly did showing as a youngster, but we have switched to showjumping as he loves it so much & has shown real talent."

Anderson owns and runs Millside Livery Stables in Credenhill where Evans helps to run the yard and works as a rider and instructor.

Horse-and-rider combinations compete all over the country in amateur classes; the top six in each class will qualify for the second rounds. Twelve combinations in each second round will qualify for the national finals.

"We are very much looking forward to going this prestigious event at Aintree and hope to bring some prizes back to Herefordshire," said Evans.

"We are very kindly sponsored by Just Poles Showjumps, Equiclass Boots and I-Quip Gloves, whose excellent products have really helped us to achieve our goals."
