TEENAGE Hereford yachtsman Martin Wrigley is still on course to represent Great Britain at the 2015 World Championships in Karatsu Bay Japan.

Wrigley has successfully moved up from the Optimist class to the 420 section with continuing success.

The Bobblestock youngster, who was a highly commended junior male in Herefordshire Sport's annual awards in 2009, hit the international scene two years ago.

He was selected to take part in the Optimist World Championships in the Dominican Republic and was the second Great Britain sailor to finish as he ended up 30th overall.

On his return, he fought off the challenge of competitors from Ireland, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Hong Kong, Bermuda, USA, India, Israel and UAE to win the Optimist nationals.

His success sees him follow in the footsteps of a number of eminent names in the yachting world - Sir Ben Ainslie was a previous winner in 1992 as was London 2012 silver medallist Hannah Mills, who had her name on the trophy in 2002.

Wrigley then took the decision to transfer to the International 420 a double handed dinghy, and teamed up with Midlander Marcus Tressler with continuing positive results.

The pair won the 420 Inland Championships before setting off the Curradinghy 420 Autumn Championships at Poole Yacht Club where their third place finish keeps them in the frame from Karatsu Bay.
