THE Core Skatehereford has become the second venue in Herefordshire capable of hosting regulation distance indoor archery competition.

Lugg Valley Archers have taken up the Thursday evening session and, at their opening meet at the Foley Trading estate site, appreciation was given to Matt and Sam Bushkes for all their hard work in setting up The Core and welcoming other sports.

Diane Martin, representing Bathgate Access Flooring, was thanked for providing 10 target butts and stands, five of which are already in place with the rest to be set up by the new year.

For the fourth year in a row, Lugg Valley won the Bathgate Awards League as well as the David Cochrane Senior Trophy and the Gillian Ison Junior Trophy , both also sponsored by Bathgate.

Individual success has seen Karen Michael, Ladies' recurve, Christopher Bottle Gentlemen's recurve, and Grant Lloyd, Gentlemen's compound, winning numerous medals and trophies in county and open competition.

Juniors Tara Gibbons, U16 girls' recurve, and Thomas Bottle, U18 boys' compound, have also made great gains this season.

David Cochrane, a regional competition judge and county treasurer, shot the first arrows in the new venue that signals a new chapter for Lugg Valley and Herefordshire archery.

Eddy and Shirley Payne, from Bromyard Bowmen, and Dave Bruce, chairman of the Herefordshire Archery Association, who were present gave their approval of the potential for the county .
