YOUNG runners helped their Herefordshire school claim cross-country gold in two age categories.

The pupils at St Richard's School in Bromyard topped the Under 11 and Under 13 events at the Annual Prep School’s Cross Country Championships at Shrewsbury School.

The youngsters were competing against schools from as far afield as Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, with many boasting larger pupil numbers than St Richard's.

The prizes were presented by John Ngugi who won a 5,000m Gold medal for Kenya in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.

In the Under 11 event, Laura Hayton-Lee from St Richard's took first place, closely followed by team-mate Tatiana Roberts, with St Richard's taking the Under 11 team trophy.

The team trophy also went to the Under 13 girls team from St Richard's.
