HEREFORD Roller Girls' (HRG) A team have been crowned Heartland Series Roller Derby North West Division Game champions.

The Horror Bulls thrashed Derby's Haunted City Rollers 368-48 in their final league game to ensure they remain unbeaten this year.

The Bulls took a team of just 10 players due to injuries and knew they were in for a tough game against Haunted City's 13.

Haunted City were bottom of the table without a win, but had impressed throughout the campaign.

The Bulls started strong and took control of the game to lead 162-21 at half-time.

They then maintained their advantage after the break to secure the massive win.

The Bulls' Zoe Butler was named 'best blocker' while captain Becce Turner was classed 'best jammer' and vice-captain Kim Wild 'most valuable player'.

The team now go into next month's National Finals with a lot of confidence and are currently 63rd out of 373 teams in the European rankings.

"As a team, we've worked incredibly hard in the three years we've been established," said Turner.

"We were honoured to take part in the Heartland Series and knew we would be up against some tough competition.

"We set out to win our division and we're delighted to make the finals.

"The hard work and commitment of every single member of HRG has paid off and now we need to build on that to make sure we're at the top of out game in November for the finals."

The Bulls have also been nominated for community club of the year at next month's Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sport Awards, while Turner is line for the senior sportsman of the year.

And HRG have been invited to take part in a tournament in France in January.

The club is the only UK team taking part in the showcase in Caen and it will be their first international trip together.

The Bulls are currently fund-raising for the excursion and will be doing a bag pack at Hereford's Morrisons store this Saturday.

A punk benefit night has also been booked at the Jailhouse on Friday, October 31, with Brain Wreck, Fetus Christ and Skinhorse all performing.

A quiz night will also be taking place at Hereford City Sports Club on Saturday, November 29.

The Bull's last home game of the season will be against Birmingham Blitz Dames' B team on Sunday, November 2.
