It has been another good show jumping season for Kingsland rider Erin Cullimore.

Not only was she again selected for the England Amateur team against Wales and Ireland, winning a bronze medal, she has also notched up both regional and national titles.

Erin, Tally Ho Toby and My Fletcher had a clean sweep at the MIDARC (Midland Association of Riding Clubs) Championships.

First, Toby won the Under 21 Young Rider Championship with Fletcher in Reserve Champion spot. Then, Fletcher won the Small Open Horse Championship with Toby as Reserve Champion!

“It is always strange trying to beat your own time in a class,” said Erin. “But you just have to put it out of your mind and ride according to which horse you are on at the time.

"It can be quite tricky changing to one from the other as they both ride very differently; I can really gallop Toby on, whereas that makes Fletcher too excited and I sometimes can’t get him back, so with him I have to go for the turns.”

Erin found herself in an even stranger position when, at the Cashjumping National Finals, she was competing against herself in the Adults on Ponies class on Fletcher.

“The class was run in sections and Fletcher was extremely quick in the 90cm which we won," she said.

"I tried to take it a bit steadier in the 1m as I knew I was in the lead overall but even then we won the 1m section too. Fletcher won the overall title and is now National Adults on Ponies Champion.”

The same weekend Toby was in the National 1m Championship class and was one of only two ponies competing against a field of very good horses.

“He jumped a cracking first round, one of the best he’s ever jumped," said Erin.

"I knew I had to go for it in the jump off. He jumped his heart out and we were just pipped by 0.7 seconds into Reserve Champion position by a big horse that could just go that bit faster than us with its longer legs.”

Erin also jumps two horses in affiliated classes but will continue to jump her ponies unaffiliated.

“I love ponies," she said. "Although I school and produce horses too, a lot of my work is people wanting help with their ponies for breaking, schooling and jump training as I am light enough and experienced enough to improve them, and while I want to move on with my horses I will always have a soft spot for ponies as they are such fun.”
