ORLETON'S Scott Moran signed off his fifth championship-winning season in the British Hillclimb Championship with two top-three pacing in the 2014 finale at Loton Park in Shropshire.

On an emotional day, which saw Moran's father Roger make his final appearance in the large capacity racing car class, there was more excellent news for two other Herefordshire drivers.

Mike Turpin clinched the Midland Hillclimb Championship while Sue Young set a new ladies' hill record in her Gould GR-55 single-seater racing car.

Although Scott Moran had secured his fifth championship title the previous weekend in Scotland, he was in no mood to let the competition think he was slackening off.

Moran finished third and second in the two run-offs to add more points to his tally.

Both run-offs were won by Will Hall, who finished in third place in the championship.

“To win both run-offs is a perfect end to my best ever season and having finally got to grips with the car I am really looking forward to mounting a serious championship challenge next year," said Hall.

"But with several driver changes and new pairings I think it will be yet another very competitive season.”

Trevor Willis, the 2012 champion, took second place in the championship, with young drivers Jos Goodyear and Alex Summers in fourth and fifth respectively.

Next season, Summers will be sharing the drive with Scott Moran in the Gould GR61X racing car.

Young powered up the track with a blistering drive of 48.59 seconds to set a new ladies' hill best.

And Mike Turpin, in his Vauxhall VX220, clinched the Midland Championship - but only after a countback - having tied on points with classic racing car driver Rodney Eyles.

Turpin had been beaten in similar circumstances last year after winning the title in 2012.

Presentations were made to 1997 British Champion and former club president, Roger Moran. The Moran family's Gould is now the most successful car ever in British hill climbing with six titles between Scott and Roger.
