HEREFORDSHIRE Motor Club's Darren and Sue Underwood have been presented with the Millington Rear Wheel Drive trophies that they won in the 2015 REIS MSA Asphalt Rally Championship.

The husband and wife pair also collected glassware from Mike Broad and Mike Sones for the winning the 2.0 litre class, driving their Crystal Images Awards Escort G3.

“We were hesitant starting the season, as we had switched from the 1600cc Nova front wheel drive rally car we campaigned in 2014 with class and category success, to the Escort G3 which is rear wheel drive and a 2twolitre engine for this years’ season," said Sue.

"But after three events, we could see there was a real opportunity to lift the titles, back-to-back."

Consistence was key to their success and the Leominster pairing were delighted to realise their hopes at the final event held on the Epynt ranges.

"The last rally put us under a bit of pressure to beat class rivals as well as keeping in touch with other competitors in the rear wheel drive section," added Darren.

"Arriving back at the finish it was confirmed they had done the double.

"We are delighted to have secured both titles."

The Underwoods say they have no definite plans for 2016 and are considering other championship options, which could include bringing out their Nova again.
