Evans stars as Weobley go second in GB Liners Marches League
5:00pm Thursday 31st May 2012 in Local
IT was a case of ‘good Evans’ at Weobley where the home side moved into second place in the GB Liners Marches League Division One after a run-laden win over Bartestree and Lugwardine.
Duane Evans took 5-56 as Bartestree, led by Steve Fortey (120) and skipper Ben Simpkin (65) piled up a massive 282-6 from their 45 overs.
And he then followed up with an unbeaten 60 to give support to Wayne Evans (121) as Weobley romped to victory with almost five overs to spare.
Garnons maintained their perfect record at the head of the table after a 92-run success over newly-promoted Dales.
Skipper James Debenham (58), Andy Brace (53 not out) and Rob Pritchard (50) all passed the half-century mark for Garnons, as did Dales’ Chris Chadd who was left stranded on 84no when the Leominster side’s innings closed.
Another in-form all-rounder was Crickhowell’s Nick Francis who followed up his 6-48 with an unbeaten 30 as his side won their local derby with Glangrwyney by five wickets.
Top score of the day came at Builth Wells where Sam Williams smashed 158 as the home side beat Kington by 116 runs.
Reigning champions Luctonians gained their first win of the season when they beat another of the likely front-runners, Goodrich, by 42 runs.
Father and son Duncan (89) and James (62) Platford led the way for Luctonians while Andy Brown (80) top-scored for the home side.
Further down the divisions there were centuries for Almeley’s Liam Jones, whose 109no was a maiden ton and helped secure victory over Marden, and Strollers’ Mark Powell, whose 110 was in vain as Shobdon sneaked home by two wickets.
Veteran Terry Mason returned the day’s best bowling figures with his 6-30 assisting Herefordians to victory over Woolhope 2nd, for whom Stuart Williams took 5-30.
There was a five-for, too, for Nick Phipps of Moccas who returned 5-34 as the villagers beat Wormelow 3rd by four wickets at Coppie Field.
