Maximum points for Herefordshire Motor Club's Darren and Sue Underwood at the MSA Ashphalt Championship on the Isle of Man

HEREFORDSHIRE Motor Club’s Darren and Sue Underwood returned with maximum championship points from the second round of the REIS Get Connected MSA Asphalt Championship on the Isle of Man.

After their retirement on the opening round, the Leominster husband-and-wife team needed to finish to keep their championship hopes alive and they made an impressive start on the opening Port Erin stages, to be lying seventh overall on the National ‘B’ event.

On the seventh stage they hit a kerb on the outside of a hairpin and had to stop on stage to make a temporary repair to finish that test and the final night stage, with a loss of nearly 12 minutes.

The following morning, they set about gaining experience on their first attempt at this iconic rally, with dry conditions helping their cause.

With no major issues on day two, they finished 11th overall and were first in class, taking maximum REIS championship points.

The couple will miss the next round on the Scottish Borders but hope to pick-up their championship battle on the Rally of the Midlands at the end of June.
