Hereford United old boy Peter Heritage backing his old team after win at Crawley

FOR one former Bulls player, his first view of his old club this season was something of an eye-opener.

Striker Peter Heritage was a fans’ favourite during his spell at Edgar Street and attended the game at Broadfield Stadium as a BBC radio pundit.

“I was very impressed,” said the ex-Gillingham man. “If they had played like that all season I can’t imagine they would be in this position.

“It was a fantastic win and Hereford thoroughly deserved it.”

“I thought they looked very good in the second-half, of course they rode their luck at times.

“I got the impression that Crawley thought they just had to turn up and play but Hereford certainly showed their fight.

“All credit to the Hereford side, they were superb.”

Heritage, who now intends to be at Edgar Street on Saturday, believes that, although Barnet had their own excellent success against AFC Wimbledon, the impetus remains with Hereford.

“Although Barnet won, you can imagine their players going in after winning 4-0 and hearing that Hereford won 3-0 at Crawley — that will be a bit of a psychological boost for Hereford at this stage of the season,” he said.

“Hereford now have the momentum — they have to listen to their manager and the coaches and do what they have to do.

“It could hardly be a better end to the season, Hereford playing at home to Torquay — I just hope that the club and the fans get behind the players. I’m sure it will be a packed house — it will be the biggest game that Hereford have had for a long time.

“They have nothing to fear — they have one game left to save the season and they have to win it.

“It’s not a lot to ask, is it?” he added with a smile.
