Hereford battered in heavy National 3 Midlands defeat at Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe 65 pts Hereford 0.

WEAKENED Hereford, with nine first-teamers unavailable, were battered but unbowed as they suffered another heavy National 3 Midlands reverse.

Third-team prop Pat Davies made the 180-mile journey with just 30 minutes’ notice while Lewis Jordan made a special trip from college to play.

Back-row forwards Owen Lawrence, Alex Hill and Jake Smithers, who all played out of position in the three-quarter line, and Charlie Loughman, at scrum-half, all showed character and determination in unfamiliar positions.

Hereford fell 48-0 behind after 30 minutes as Scunthorpe ran in eight tries, four of which were converted.

After that, however, Hereford showed determination to restrict the strong home side to just three more in the remaining 50 minues.
