THE Marshfield harness racing meeting at Allensmore under BHRC rules was a day of mixed fortunes for several local trainers.
Yarkhill's Sue Young celebrated another fabulous double, scoring her fourth consecutive victory with No Mercy and deputising for her brother Peter Preston on the sulky seat behind Wellfield Lifestyle.
Later in the final, Young almost joined Preston on the injured list when she was involved in a dramatic spill on the last bend. Luckily, both horse and driver were relatively unscathed.
The final was an enterprising victory for young raider, Kelly Rushton who kept Wellfield Blaze in front all the way.
Builth Wells owner, trainer and driver Lee Price continued his flying run of form with the sleek Duggan Cherished to grab their seventh race of the season so far.
Lyonshall’s Shane Eggerton was unfazed by the fact that the stiff opposition had travelled from all over the country and coolly partnered his own Wyeside Taurus to a commanding win.
Hundred House-based Jamie Davies, continues to grow in stature and rarely leaves a meeting empty-handed.
He was seen at his best partnering Brywin's Victory to a slender triumph over professional raider Michael Lord (Rhyds Topaz) to take the cup for the fastest maiden.
But the Lord stable was back on top in the Three Year Old Colts Championship, when the superstar Rhyds Fivestar battled clear of Brywin's That's Life (Ian Pimlott), though with only half a length in it, it was the narrowest winning margin of his career to date.
David Bevan qualified two horses for the final, winning with Mamma Mia, whom he opted for rather than Rhyds Playboy. Unfortunately, David was another who was hampered in the scrimmage on the last bend while Gareth Price hustled Rhyds Playboy into the runner-up spot.
Devils Best (Julian Price) is maturing into a top-class pacer, and following on from his recent Musselburgh placing, he powered clear in the top grade heat to take the trophy for the fastest time of the day.
