HEREFORD head coach Sean Lynn was pleased with his side's performance after they saw off Wolverhampton 25-20 in Midlands 1 West.

Wolverhampton are struggling near the foot of the division and gave the Wyesiders a good game.

But back-to-back wins means Hereford will go into this Saturday's trip to third-placed Bromsgrove in confident mood.

“In the first half we made handling errors and could not get any continuity, but we defended well and went in at half time at 10-10, so we knew what we had to do in the second half," said Lynn.

"We had a bit of a breeze at our backs, played some territory rugby and kept the ball in hand.

"The boys played well, particularly the second-row pair of Ollie Hutcheson and Caleb Haines.

"Hutch, playing out of position, worked hard and covered lots of ground and it was great to see Caleb back in the first team.

"It’s good to see the developing strength in our squad.

"Tom Starkey played last week and again today and played really well.

"It is pleasing to see a guy come from the second team, put his hand up and make that position his own."

Hereford looked sharp from the off but took the lead in fortuitous circumstances.

A Wolverhampton handling error allowed the home side to hack the ball through from inside their own half, which led to James Stubbs gathering the ball inside the Wolverhampton 22 to cross for a try that he converted.

The Hereford pack dominated, but poor handling prevented them from adding to their lead and Wolverhampton took the lead with a converted try.

Stubbs did kick over a penalty before the break though to level it up and, early in the second half, Hereford regained the lead.

A successful kick chase by Leon Parsons and Stubbs secured the ball which was moved across the line to Starkey, who beat a number of defenders to score an unconverted try in the corner.

Hereford increased their lead after a number of drives were halted by Wolverhampton and the ball was picked up by Tom Slater, who raced over for another unconverted try.

The Wyesiders continued to attack and a number of forward drives was rewarded with a bonus try for Fran Jennings.

Wolverhampton responded with a try of their own which they converted and they secured a bonus point with a penalty.

Elsewhere, Ledbury claimed a fine 28-22 win at rivals Upton-on-Severn to stay within touching distance of the leading sides in Midlands 3 West (South).

George Hill scored two tries, with Dan Sawle and Dan Heath also going over.

Hillson also added four conversions.

At the foot of the division, Bromyard lost 21-0 to Woodrush.

Greyhound have returned to the top of Midlands 5 West (North) after seeing off Warley 31-16.

Warley had to supply a referee after the designated match official did not arrive and Greyhound found themselves trailing 9-5 at the break.

But three tries in the last 10 minutes saw them home.

Chris Fisher and Eliot Phillips both bagged a brace, with Liam Webdale adding the other.

Three conversions were kicked over by Kev Murphy.

And in Gloucester 2, Ross-on-Wye once again after hammering Bream 51-12.
