HEREFORD saw off rivals Worcester in a tight Midlands 1 West derby.

Three converted penalties from James Stubbs were enough for a 9-3 win at Wyeside.

"Everyone put in a hundred percent and our defence, rucking and mauling was good, but we need to work on our attacking play," said Here

“Luke Yarrington, Gareth Jones and Matt Hill stood out in a dogged performance.

"It was a great win for the boys, it’s never a pretty game against Worcester, but we are delighted to come out on top.”

Both teams failed to create clear chances in the game as each sides defences were solid.

Worcester started the game well and put the Hereford defence under pressure but the Wyesiders didn’t concede any early points and on fifteen minutes they took the lead with their first converted penalty.

Defensive errors by Worcester meant Stubbs could add another three points to Hereford’s lead before half-time.

After the interval, Hereford came out and pushed for a try but another penalty was all they had to show for their efforts.

Stubbs yet again converted to give them a 9-0 lead after 47 minutes.

Worcester pulled back three points five minutes later but also lost a man to the sin bin.

Hereford couldn’t add to their lead despite their man advantage, but were happy with the win.

The Wyesiders are now seventh in the division and they host eighth-placed Lutterworth this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Hereford Colts beat Solihull Colts 38-19.

Bryn Goodall and Levi Hughes scored two tries each while Sam Johnson got the other.

Goodall converted all five tries and added a penalty.
