WORCESTERSHIRE player Daryl Mitchell is confident Brockhampton can stay in the Birmingham & District Premier Division after helping them claim their first win of the season.

Mitchell smashed a stunning 194 off just 151 balls – including 25 fours and two sixes – as Brock beat Dorridge by 32 runs.

"When you get promoted, it's about getting to the next level, so this win would have given them a bit of confidence," said Mitchell.

"They acquitted themselves well in the first couple of games and got a couple of bonus points, but it's always good to get that first win.

"The overseas player, Dinusha Fernando, has got a lot of quality, so hopefully he will go and take wickets.

"Dom Badger also bowled pretty well and I can see there is a talented group at the club.

"If the lads perform to their best, then I think they will win a lot of games."

It was Mitchell's home debut for Brockhampton and he was delighted with how it went.

"It was my first time up there and it brought me back to my roots from when I played village cricket," said Mitchell, who also took three wickets for Worcestershire in their win against Durham on Sunday.

"The game was probably a bit more comfortable than it looked because they always going struggle to get to their target when they kept losing wickets.

"Their opener got a quick 80, but we bowled reasonably well.

"In league cricket, you very rarely lose after scoring 320."

It was the fourth-wicket partnership between Mitchell and Joe Crichard that proved key to Brockhampton's win.

The villagers were 50-3 when Crichard came to the crease, but fine batting by both players brought the score to 199-4.

"It was a great partnership that we put on and it proved vital in getting a big total," added Mitchell.

"He was unlucky not to go on and get three figures, but he stroked the ball really cleanly and had a vital contribution."

Crichard hit 52, while fellow middle-order batsman Ian Bullock scored 44 as Brockhampton posted a competitive total of 325-9.

To their credit, Dorridge made a game of it and made it a great spectacle for the spectators.

But ultimately, Brockhampton's total proved too big.

Jamie McIlroy and captain Nick Powell both snapped up four wickets, with Mitchell claiming a caught and bowled.

This Saturday, Brockhampton go to bottom club Kidderminster looking for back-to-back wins.

However, Mitchell is set to miss the next few games due to his commitments with Worcestershire.
