LUCTONIANS and Hereford both came unstuck in their latest matches.

Lucs lost 36-5 at home to National League 2 North leaders Caldy, while Hereford went down 22-10 to Dudley Kingswinford In Midlands 1 West.

Caldy have been unstoppable this season and claimed a well-deserved victory against a Luctonians side, who despite playing much of the game in their opponents’ territory, couldn’t get the result their supporters were looking for. The visitors were ahead as early as the first minute when Tom Banks found a gap in the Lucs defence to score from close in; Jack Lavin adding the extras.

The away side twice added to their score through Gav Roberts and Dan Salisbury went over for Caldy, which gave the away side a 17-point lead after only 15 minutes. Louis Silver managed to reduce the arrears with a try and the home side were unlucky not to add to their tally.

But Caldy showed why they look like winning the division with more points scored after the break. Jack Hollister’s try on 48 minutes came from a rolling maul, with further tries coming from John Weir and Forbes Edwards.

Meanwhile, Hereford director of rugby Bob Stewart felt his side could easily have beaten Dudley Kingswinford, but too many basic mistakes in the second half cost them.

“We asked the boys to show discipline and protect the ball, which enabled us to get only three points adrift,” said Stewart, “But too many basic mistakes in the second half and yellow cards probably cost us a losing bonus at least.

“But I was pleased with the resilience of the pack, especially the performance of props Nathan Boden and Lagi Baudromo.”

Hereford had to defend for most of the first half and restricted Dudley to just one penalty goal.

The second half was more open and Dudley increased their lead with a Stefan Shillingford try; Duncan Tompkins converting.

Hereford responded with Will Ford setting up Perry Pudge for the first of his two tries.

Callum Brayshaw added the conversion. Tompkins then kicked over another penalty for Dudley before Brad Talbot forced over a try for Hereford.

Talbot and Gus Lowther were later shown yellow cards for Hereford and Dudley sealed the win with a converted try.
