HEREFORD Roller Derby kicked off their return to the British Championship by beating Plymouth City Roller Girls.

The lead changed hands several times, with Plymouth leading 63-53 with five minutes to go before half-time.

But Hereford dug deep and were able to score another six points before the whistle.

The second half kicked off with a power jam for Plymouth, but the Hereford blockers used everything they had to stop them taking advantage.

That brought the score even closer, with Plymouth holding the edge at 83-79.

From that point on, Hereford were on top and fought for every point available.

The lead again changed a few times, but with 20 minutes to go, Hereford held the initiative at 99-91.

With the final moment of the game fast approaching, both sides brought out the big hitters and worked hard for each point.

The opportunity of a power jam saw Hereford Hereford go 166-134 up with just two minutes remaining.

Hereford then held out to seal a 173-138 win.

Awards were presented after the match to best jammer, best blocker and most valuable player.
