GETTING players back fit will only help the Luctonians cause, says captain Alex Smith.

After winning four of their opening six games, Lucs hit a dip in form, caused by having key players unavailable.

But one player who has made a long-awaited return is Adam Knight, who made a big impact against Sedgley Park after coming off the bench.

"He's worked really hard on his rehab over the last two years almost and fair play to guys like him who you see at training putting the work in and trying to get themselves fit again," said Smith.

"It drives us lot on and he made a big impact when he came on.

"We've got a few more back over the next couple of weeks, which fills you with confidence and we'll be a more dangerous side."

Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson believes his team would have been much higher up the table if they hadn't have had so many injuries.

"We lost two or three at home that we should have won and if we had had have done, we would be in the top half of the table," said Davidson.

"So if we had kept our squad together and remained injury free, we would have been in the top third.

"If we get Stefan [Psota] back in the second row, we can start to rotate Piers [Morell] and Dan [Smith] and keep everyone fresh."

Meanwhile, Alex Smith felt Olly Allsopp slotted in well at number 10.

"He came to us last season and did a little bit of training, but came on loan from Hartpury a couple of weeks ago," explained Smith.

"He's just added depth and it's great to have some competition in these places.

"Unfortunately that's been our problem - we just didn't have loads of guys knocking on the door.

"But now we've got a bit of a buzz of for each shirt and I think it's important that it drives everyone forward and it gets the best out of everyone."
