A FOOTBALL team that conceded 161 goals in 15 games have finally won a game.

Hereford City Reserves had been on the receiving end of two 20-0 drubbings, while also losing 16-0 and 16-1 on two further occasions.

But it all came together last Saturday thanks to a 5-2 win against Withington in Division Two of the HFA County League.

Chris Marshall, who set up Hereford City, says the reserves now have six or seven new players and he is confident they can pick up more wins.

“Jamie Baker and Andy Livingstone have come over from Cosmos to manage the team and they’ve brought in Rhys Davies from Bartestree and Rikki Day from Fownhope, while a few have transferred over from Sunday football to Saturday,” said Marshall.

“They’ve now got a really good squad there.”

Davies (2) and Day scored three of the goals, with Will Hooper also grabbing a brace.

It was also a good day for Hereford City’s first team following a 5-1 home win against Orleton Colts Reserves.

The victory leaves them three points behind leaders Tenbury Town at the top of Division One.

Tenbury beat Weobley 4-2, while third-placed Kington Town Reserves lost 2-1 at home to Fownhope Reserves.

The only two unbeaten teams in the county are Hinton and Kingstone Rovers.

Hinton have won 13 out of 15 games to lead the Premier Division by 10 points, but they had a scare at home to Leominster Town last Saturday.

The Hereford side eventually won 4-3 thanks to two goals from Elliot Body and one each for Mike Marsden and Bradley Matthews.

Elsewhere in the division, Hereford Lads Club Reserves enjoyed a great 2-1 win against Ewyas Harold, Orleton Colts thrashed Ledbury 6-2, Wellington Reserves and Holme Lacy shared a dramatic 5-5 draw and Westfields Reserves drew 2-2 with Bartestree.

Burghill Rangers took advantage of Kingstone Rovers’ match at Leominster Reserves being called off by closing the gap at the top of Division Town to two points after beating Bartestree Reserves 2-0.

Elsewhere, Ross Juniors overcame Toros 6-4 and Civil Service saw off Shobdon 3-2.
