HEREFORDSHIRE'S Jim Williams is out of the BDO World Darts Championship after losing 4-1 to Jamie Hughes in the second round tonight.

Missing a hatful of doubles proved to be Willams' downfall, with Hughes hitting his at key moments.

Remarkably, Williams had a higher average than his opponent and hit eight 180s, compared to Hughes' three.

But it was the player from Tipton that kept his focus at crucial times and made Williams pay.

The first set went with the player throwing first, with Hughes sealing a 3-2 win.

But a break by Hughes in the third leg of the next set proved crucial and Williams found himself 2-0 down.

A remarkable first leg in the third set, which saw both players miss a number of doubles, eventually saw Williams break.

But Hughes broke back straight away with scores of 139, 180 and 130.

Back came Williams to break back to go 2-1 ahead in legs before Hughes made it 2-2.

Hughes then held to seal the set and go 3-0 up.

When Hughes broke Williams straight away at the start of the fourth set, it looked like a 4-0 whitewash was on the cards.

But Williams, who hails from Shobdon, played brilliantly to win successive legs for the first time before the Welshman won the fourth leg to finally get a set on the board.

Williams had a great chance to break Hughes and go 2-1 up in legs in the fifth set, but missed doubles again proved costly.

Hughes then sealed the win with a double six in the next leg to set up a quarter-final tie against Martin Adams.
