LUCTONIANS missed a golden opportunity to win another game at Mortimer Park as they let slip a commanding lead to lose 32-31 to Chester in National league 2 North, The Mortimer Park side were seemingly cruising at 31-10, but Chester took advantage of Lucs having players sent to the sin bin to win the game with a last-minute conversion.

“We were hit with a couple of dubious decisions which swung the momentum and perhaps our young side showed its inexperience when we couldn’t close the game out in the six minutes of added time,” said Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson.

Chester opened the scoring after two minutes when Craig Ross broke through to score; Alex Burrage converting.

But Lucs hit back immediately when Frank Kelly barged through following a scrum, with Louis Silver converting.

Silver then converted a Will Hodnett try before both teams exchanged penalties.

Lucs then kicked on, with Silver converting tries from Charlie Grimes and Joe White.

But yellow cards to Guy Kirkby and Piers Morell saw Chester hit back in style thanks to tries from Ross White, Will Bown and Mike Craven. Callum Bennett's conversion won the match.

This Saturday, Lucs go to to league leaders Caldy.
