WESTFIELDS captain Phil Glover almost retired two years ago – now he will be leading his side out in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

Glover had a sciatic nerve problem in his leg and didn't play the whole of the 2014/15 season.

But he was a rock at the heart of the Westfields defence last Saturday in a famous 2-1 win over Leiston in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Next up is a home tie against Curzon Ashton in the first round proper.

"Edo [Sean Edwards] badgered me to come back and I'm so glad I did," said Glover.

"The week has been so surreal with all the interviews and with the photos with the FA Cup.

"It's stuff dreams are made off.

"My boy Billy came on at the end as well.

"He just ran on – it's what it's about isn't it?

"After the final whistle went, with all the kids running on the pitch, it was brilliant.

"The changing room was wild."

Glover admitted his team-mates thought they were going to lose the game at the half-time break.

Leiston went into the game unbeaten and are top of the Ryman Football League Premier Division – two levels higher than what Westfields play at.

"They were a very good side and we came in at half-time thinking, how do we play against these," said Glover.

"We thought we were hanging on a bit, but to come back after they scored shows what we're about this year.

"I felt we defended a lot and I know Kane [Kahaki] said to me that he had gone and was knackered with 10 minutes to go and same here.

"So to get the second goal was absolutely massive.

"And even after that they were banging in balls but we dealt with it.

"I've got to give a mention to Keiron Blackburn though in goal.

"He was awesome and at 1-1, his saves were brilliant."

Glover was joined by a number of his team mates at allpay.park for Monday night's live first round draw.

You could cut the tension with a knife as Paul Ince and David James drew the numbers out, with Westfields chief executive Andy Morris watching patiently in the Manchester studio.

Gasps were heard as Football League giants Sheffield United and Millwall were drawn out early doors, but neither would be playing Westfields.

Sean Edwards' side were ball number 62 and when numbers 67, 66 and 63 all came out, the tension was unbearable.

Richard Greaves, who scored the winning goal last Saturday, could hardly watch and even had to temporarily leave the club house to get some air.

Finally, Ince pulled out Westfields and the players jumped up and down, knowing they would be home.

They then turned to the television screen to find out their opponents, some biting their nails.

The mood momentarily dampened when James pulled out York City or Curzon Ashton because it was not the glamour tie the players wanted.

But they soon realised it was a winnable tie and who's to say they can't pull off another shock?

"It was surreal watching the draw," added Glover,

"Myself and Richard Greaves were praying for Bolton, but to be there on a Monday night will all the lads was brilliant.

"As the balls were coming out, it was just crazy.

"We were talking on Sunday that we might never get this feeling again."
