HEREFORD FC easily disposed of Wellington tonight in the first round of the HFA County Challenge Cup.

An own goal from Andy Price and further strikes from Jamie Molyneux, Matt McDonald and Mike McGrath did the damage in front of an Edgar Street attendance of 615.

Hereford manager Pete Beadle picked a strong side, as well as blooding some youngsters.

Wellington performed admirably in the early stages, but as soon as Hereford went ahead in the 30th minute, there was only going to be one winner.

Calvin Dinsley's shot took a wicked deflection off Price to open the scoring before Molyneux made it 2-0 two minutes before half-time.

McDonald, who played well on the night, effectively sealed the win in the 56th minute and McGrath added a fourth goal on the hour mark.

Meanwhile, Westfields lost for the first time this season at Alvechurch.

Sean Edwards's side went into the game on the back of a 17-game winning run in all competitions.

But they had no answer to Alvechurch tonight in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

Alvechurch opened the scoring in the 35th mintute before Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne saved a penalty a minute before half-time.

But Alvechurch made up for the miss by scoring again moments later and saw out the second half to win the match.

The win leaves Alvechurch just a point behind Westfields at the top of the division, but Edwards' side have five games in hand.
