WESTFIELDS boss Sean Edwards hopes star striker Jamie Molyneux will still be at the club for their huge FA Cup match with Walton Casuals on Saturday.

The 21-year-old’s displays this season have attracted the attentions of both Hereford FC and Solihull Moors.

Both clubs have put in seven-day notices for the player, while representatives of Kidderminster Harriers were at Westfields’ FA Vase match against Dudley Sports last Saturday.

The Hereford Times understands that Hereford have offered Molyneux £350 per week, plus goal bonuses, to make the short switch to Edgar Street.

“When somebody offers him that sort of money, his head is going to be turned and he’s bound to be tempted by it,” said Edwards.

“[Hereford manager] Peter Beadle has got a job to get Hereford up the leagues and, with the crowds they’re getting, they can afford to bring players in.

“He [Molyneux] is only 21 and I don’t begrudge anyone putting in seven days for him because he’s a free agent and not on a contract at Westfields.

“If Peter Beadle thinks he can improve their squad, then he will be an asset, but if he does go there then I hope he’s put in the position that he needs to be in.

“They took Jamie Cuss and, up until the FA Cup game [against Romulus], he didn’t have a start and then ends up getting injured.

“It has been an unnecessary distraction because it should have been done in pre-season.

“I don’t think Solihull would have approached him if they hadn’t have heard that Hereford had come in for in for him.

“He hasn’t been playing in every game because I’ve been mindful of his previous injuries, but it is still our top goalscorer, so that brings interest from other clubs.”

Beadle said: "I think Jamie offers something different to the strikers we already have.

"It's just a waiting game now because he's also had to speak to Solihull, I just hope that what we have offered him will tempt him.

"We don't want to disrupt Westfields because they've made a fantastic start, but football is football and we would like to have Jamie play for us."

Both Westfields and Hereford are in FA Cup third qualifying round action on Saturday.

Westfields host Ryman Division One South side Walton Casuals, while Hereford make the long trip to take on Ryman Premier Division high fliers Tonbridge Angels.

Each third qualifying round winner will bank £7,500 and Edwards is all too aware of how financially beneficial a good cup run can have.

“It is still the biggest competition for us and is as big as the league, especially when you’ve gone through a few rounds,” said Edwards.

“When you get through them, anything can happen.

“If we can rock up on Saturday and everyone plays like they have been doing for the last eight to 10 weeks, then we are a very difficult team to play against.

“But I’m going into it with a relaxed mindset.

“If we win, then great, but if not, we roll our sleeves up and go to the next game.”

Beadle, meanwhile, believes Tonbridge will be slight favourites going into Hereford's game.

"However, we feel that, if we go there and perform well, we are always in with a chance," he said.

"We've got good players, have people who can score goals all across the pitch and at times we do defend extremely well.

"All I expect is a performance and if that is right, the result normally takes care of itself.

"It will be a challenge and a test.

"They're big and strong and they've had a great start.

"We're just looking forward to the challenge now."

Tonbridge dropped to third place in the Ryman League Premier Division following a 5-3 defeat at Merstham on Tuesday night, their second loss in three days.

Former Hereford United player Bradley Fortnam Tomlinson was on target for Tonbridge.
