TWO brothers have once again held a successful charity cricket match in aid of St Michaels' Hospice.

This year's event was held at Bartestree & Lugwarine Cricket Club, with Adam Matravers' side comfortably beating his brother Rob's XI by 106 runs.

Around £1,200 is likely to have been raised for the charity, with an auction and raffle held after the match.

The event was also sponsored by county firm La Roche Restoration, who help restore character and listed buildings.

"It seems to get bigger each year with the raffle and the auction we have – way beyond what we expected," said Adam, who made a resilient 19.

"La Roche Home Restoration got involved offering support because they had family who had cancer and had been at the Hospice so it was a cause lose to their heart.

"They have offered financial support and support on the da, so you can't ask for any more."

Adam thanked Bartestree & Lugwardine Cricket Club for offering their facilities.

"They have been really hospitable and offer a fantastic cricket wicket," he said.

"The outfield is always immaculate and always very helpful in anything we ask."

Martin Hobbs' and Tom Haynes' 27 helped the A. Matravers XI post 166 from their innings; John Foster, Rob Matravers and Sebastian Richards all snapping up three wickets.

The R. Matravers XI never got going in reply and were eventually skittled out for just 60.

Hobbs (4-11) and Haynes (3-7) were the pick of the bowlers, with Paul Rogers taking the winning catch.

"Having lose the first two years, to come back and be 3-2 ahead is fantastic," said Adam.
