BROCKHAMPTON chairman Roy Wargen says it "won't be the end of the world" if his side don't gain promotion this season.

The villagers are in fantastic form and currently lie third in Birmingham & District League Division One – just two points behind second-placed Smethwick and seven behind Dorridge, who are leading the way.

Brockhampton go to Smethwick this Saturday

"We are where we are and are having a great season, so there's no reason why we shouldn't go for promotion, but we're only at the halfway point," said Wargen.

"I don't make statements, if we get promoted, then great, but if not, it's not the end of the world and we'll try again."

Brockhampton were relegated from the Premier Division last season and took their time to find their feet in Division One.

"We had a new coach in Matt Bullock and he has proved that he was the perfect choice," added Wargen.

"We had a couple of new players in and they had to take time to gel.

"But under the captaincy of Nick Powell, who has been excellent, everyone is enjoying their cricket.

"If they are enjoying their cricket, they will get the right results."

Last Saturday, Brockhampton bear Bridgnorth by 96 runs thanks to the exploits of overseas player Senuran Muthusamy.

The South African smashed 133 off 141 balls and took 4-62.

Chris Powell also performed well with the bat, scoring 67 and Jamie McIlroy helped himself to three wickets.

It's a different story for Eastnor though, who are struggling at the foot of Division Three.

Their latest defeat was a five-wicket loss to Astwood Bank.

What appears to be Eastnor's problem is not enough players scoring enough runs.

Indeed, 200 of their 215 runs were scored by just four players.

Atiq Ur Rehman, who also took 3-63, scored a century, while Mahaaz Ahmed and Shahid Ahmed added 42 and 39 runs respectively.

But Astwood Bank had no trouble reaching their target, resulting in Eastnor dropping to the bottom of the division – 40 points from safety.

This Saturday, Eastnor host third-from-bottom Lichfield in a must-win encounter.
