EASTNOR sit in the final relegation spot in the Birmingham & District Premier League Division Three after a comprehensive 150-run loss to Brewood.

A masterful century from Dewald Joubert and excellent bowling from James Lunn completed a perfect all-round display from the side sitting mid-table.

After winning the toss, Shahid Ahmed (3-48) took the new ball and began superbly, removing three Brewood batsmen, notably, Luke Bird for a first ball duck, and leaving the side 66-3. However, a fourth-wicket stand of 159 from centurion Joubert (128 off 92 balls) and second top scorer Josh Speake (56 not out off 94) began to take the game away from Eastnor.

The speed of scoring, in particular from Joubert, who amassed nine fours and ten sixes in his innings, and poor bowling, with 43 extras in the innings, led Brewood to their unassailable total of 342-7 declared after 50 overs.

Eastnor’s chase started in the worst possible manner after the loss of their first wicket with score standing at four.

Despite the efforts of opener Jabran Khalid (88 off 124), Eastnor were eventually bowled out for 192 in 47.2 overs; James Lunn with the damage, taking 4-69.
