HEREFORD FC manager Pete Beadle said he would not have minded if the HFA County Challenge Cup Final was played at allpay.park.

The Bank Holiday Monday clash between the Bulls and Westfields was staged at Edgar Street, having being voted by the HFA committee at the start of the season.

Westfields felt that gave Hereford an unfair advantage, with chairman John Morgan even saying the Herefordshire Football Association should have considered applying the away goals rule to "add a bit of spice."

Manager Sean Edwards has since said that the HFA "should hold their head in shame" and the only realistic way his side would have won the game was if it was staged at allpay.park.

"You would argue that there wouldn't be many grounds in the area that could house two thousand," said Beadle.

"Does it give an unfair advantage? It's a cup final.

"If we had had it at Westfields, it wouldn't have bothered me, we would have gone there and played the same and probably would have had the same support there.

"But the HFA want to play their finals at this ground [Edgar Street] and rightly so."

Edwards believes the HFA "devalued" the competition this a year, a trophy his side had won for the previous five years.

"If they wanted 2,100 people in the game, it should have been held at allpay.park and given us an opportunity," said Edwards.

"Because that was the only way, realistically, that we were going to have an opportunity.

"We needed a bit of luck with the referee and players to perform and, to be fair, my lads have given everything in terms of fitness they have got, but unfortunately, it's not good enough."

Beadle was delighted with the attendance of 2,118.

"I think the novelty of having Hereford FC back has probably worn off a little bit and now, it's more about the fact that they are enjoying watching the team play because they do play some excellent stuff," he said.

"It's important we keep doing it and it's important they keep coming.

"It's nice to sign off at home with a win.

"We did in the league against Heanor, and now in the cup, so hopefully we can now do some work on the pitch and get it back to its pristine condition."

Hereford comfortably won the game 5-1 and will now head to Solihull Moors next Tuesday for the final of the Polymac Packaging Midland Football League Cup, kick-off 7.30pm.

Beadle is mindful of players picking up injuries, but believes any side he puts out is a strong one.

"What will be in our mind is making sure we have a team that can perform and and a team that hopefully can get us a result," he said.

"I'm sure there will be one or two changes as we move forward.

"Jamie Willets had an x-ray and that's come back clear, it's obviously very sore at the top of his foot, but he's walking better now, so hopefully he will be fine in a few days time."

Hereford's scorers were Rob Purdie (penalty), Mike Symons, James Pilling, Sirdic Grant and Jimmy Oates (penalty), with Blaine Waugh replying for Westfields. It was Oates' first goal for the Bulls.

"It's a long time coming, but it's awesome to get one.," said Oates.

James Febery was also sent off for Westfields following two yellow cards.
