LUCTONIANS captain Dan Smith has every faith his side can get a win at Chester this Saturday as the Kingsland side aim to bounce back from a disappointing defeat in National League 2 North.

Lucs go into the game six points from safety in the division, with their latest defeat coming at the hands of Sedgley Park.

But the north Herefordshire side acquitted themselves well at Chester last year and Smith is hoping for the same performance this time around.

"We were a point behind and were on course for two bonus points, but they scored with the last scrum of the game," explained Smith.

"It's one of the nicest grounds in the league, but they're not unbeatable.

"They can be deadly on their day and have some extremely good players, but we've got to go there and give it our best shot, which I am confident we can do."

Lucs lost 35-10 to Sedgley Park at Mortimer Park.

"They are a good side and, physically, it was probably the toughest game we have had," said Smith, who was one of two Lucs players who were yellow-carded in the match.

"We allowed them to muscle their way in, so we got frustrated and our discipline let us down, which spiralled out of control.

"We had chances early on and went ahead with a penalty, but we gave away two cheap tries.

"We didn't really make them work hard for them."

Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson added that, even though the pitch was in much better condition than previous weeks, his side struggled on it.

"It seemed that the players were shocked to be playing on a good surface," said Davidson.

"Three or four times, we have played in monsoon-like conditions, whereas this time it was a drier pitch.

"We were culpable of handing them three or four tries."

Steve Collins was the architect for Sedgley Park's win, kicking over three conversions and three penaltes.

Lucs opened the lead thanks to a Louis Silver penalty after four minutes, but the visitors quickly responded with a Jamie Harrison try, converted by Collins.

Sedgley were then rewarded with scrum penalties, which allowed Collins to kick over another three-pointer.

It was then 23-3 to the visitors thanks to another Collins penalty before hooker Johnny Matthews went over.

The try was converted by Collins, making the score 30-3.

The hosts pulled a score back through Owen Davies, which Silver converted, but Sedgley Park had the final say when Callum McShane raced to touch down for a bonus point.
