HEREFORD Tchoukball Club will be relocating to Hereford Leisure Centre next week.

For the past four years, Leominster has been the base for an energetic sport that is similar to handball.

But training in Hereford will start at 6.55pm next Wednesday and will consist of 40 minutes of fast-paced, fun.

Philip Moore, chief executive officer of Tchoukball UK, said the aim now is to engage with the Hereford community and encourage more people to get active and try a new team sport this year.

"We are very keen for new clubs to become established and engage local communities getting more people more active, more often," he said.

"This is one of Halo Leisure's targets and we are keen for Herefordshire Tchoukball Club to work with the local leisure trust to achieve this."

Open to anyone aged 16 and above, sessions will comprise of an introduction to the sport, where players will be taught the basic skills.

A team consists of seven players and the sport is non-contact, with no interception of the ball between players.

Tchoukball utilises two rebound nets called frames, with both teams shooting and defending a frame at both ends of the court.

"It is great for general all-round fitness and teaches basic skills of throwing and catching in a competitive environment," added Moore.

"If you're in the cricket off season then Tchoukball is a great one for you to maintain fitness and still get ball handling skills.

"Its good for lots of other sports to such as rugby, basketball, netball and volleyball.

"Herefordshire Tchoukball has been working to engage local schools where many past and present students have played the sport and are very keen to see these players coming along to the club.

"Tchoukball is great for business looking to build teamwork within their workforce and the club encourages the local business community to get involved and support the club by encouraging employees to get active and have fun whilst exercising and building fitness within the workforce."

Sessions cost £3 and is available for anyone to join.
