TEAMS from Gloucestershire had a successful outing at the annual Macmillan Charity Fours short mat bowls tournament at Bromyard Leisure Centre.

The Royal Forest of Dean side, consisting of Jeanne Marshall, Judith Bradley, Randolph Ball and Peter Rawdanowicz took the trophy on shots difference from Winstone's Roy Taggart, Bryan Taylor, Gwen Wheeler and Tony Wheeler after both teams won all four of their matches during the day.

The award for best junior competitor went to Luke Rawlings of the Larruperz Club.

A total of 38 bowlers took part, with £1,850 being raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Meanwhile, in the inter-county competition, the Premier team are finding their group very difficult and went down 29-11 to Gloucestershire in their latest match, their third defeat so far. The 'A' team, however, are reasonably well poised in their group having defeated Gloucestershire 24-16 in their second match of the qualifying group stage.

The latest round of the national qualifiers saw the Woolhope trio of John Mills, Shirley and Becci Cox secure a place in the National Triples Finals after defeating Ali and Ian Roe and Ian Park, of Ross.

The runners-up, along with the third and fourth-placed teams, will face a wait to see how many national finals places are allocated to the county.
