PEGASUS Juniors extended their run of victories to five with another win, this time against Smethwick Rangers in the West Midland (Regional) League Premier Division.

The Hereford outfit ran out 2-0 winners at Old School Lane thanks to first half goals from Sam Pearson and Luke Griffiths.

Peggy controlled the first period but, despite the two goals, wasted a number of other goalscoring opportunities that would have put the result beyond doubt.

This victory was all the more impressive given that manager James Edmonds has still not been able to name the same eleven starting players in his sides' 15 league and cup games so far this campaign.

In the seventh minute, a free kick from the left by Griffiths found Pearson, returning after a three match absence through injury, but his shot was saved by Kurtis Wedgebury.

Four minutes later, Ben Price played the ball to Pearson but his shot across the face of goal saw Griffiths being inches away from opening the scoring as he stretched to reach the ball.

The deadlock was broken after 18 minutes when a scuffed goal kick by Wedgebury was pounced on by Pearson who coolly slotted the ball home.

Ten minutes later, Liam Taylor played the ball to Pearson who fed Ashley Lear, but his shot glanced off the far post to safety.

But in first half stoppage time, Griffiths scored his first goal for the club with a smart finish.

The second half continued with Pegasus Juniors taking the game to the opposition.

On the hour mark, Nathan Phillips made a fine double save from Luke Woodyatt to deny the visitors and saw Juniors to their seventh league win of the season and a place in the top five ahead of this weekend's trip to second-placed Haughmond.
