HAY St Marys are through to the next round of the Welsh Cup after coming through a penalty shoot-out against Llansantffraid Village.

Ryan Davies, who netted in normal time, scored the decisive spot-kick to send the Saints to the second qualifying round.

With six players unavailable from the squad that won at Knighton, manager Gethin Jenkins handed a first team debut to 16-year-old Kiegan Powell, while midfielders Stu Davies and Matt James played in central defence to help cover the missing players.

Hay went in front when Ryan Davies beat a couple of players before shooting home.

But Llansantffraid equalised and the tie went into extra-time.

Hay went back in front five minutes into the added 30 through McNamara, but back came Llansantffraid who levelled for the second time.

The home side then scored all their five penalties, with Brendan Hackett, Rob Snedden, Sam Bradley and Jack Biggs also netting.

Another side who have advanced to the second qualifying round are Knighton Town, who thrashed Kerry 4-0.

Jonny Samuel opened the scoring from 20 yards after 15 minutes before Mark Jones put the Robins 23-0 up.

Oliver Richards then netted with a superb lob before adding another to seal the win.

Presteigne St Andrews are out though after losing 4-2 at Tywyn Bryncrug.

Ieuan Crowe twice put Presteigne ahead, but Tywyn went on to win the game.

Newbridge-on-Wye also got knocked out after being hammered 11-2 at Berriew.

In the Spa Mid-Wales League Division Two, Radnor Valley went down 3-2 to Churchstoke, while in Watson Financial Mid-Wales League (South), Presteigne Reserves were thrashed 6-1 by Brecon and Talgarth Town lost 2-0 at home to Carno Reserves.

But Knighton Town Reserves earned a 3-0 win at Builth Wells Reserves.
